Mr Bond completed his PGCE (History) at the University of Newcastle in 1994, achieving a 1st Class Honours degree at the University of Liverpool the previous year. His teaching career began in his native North East, where he worked for seven years at RGS Newcastle. His career has also included appointments at Merchant Taylors’ School, where he was Head of Sixth Form for five years, before which he had been Head of History and Housemaster of a senior Boys’ Boarding House at Christ College Brecon. He was a Governor at The Beacon School in Chesham Bois for four years before moving to Brentwood School, where he took up the position of Headmaster in September 2019. Mr Bond is also a Governor at Merchant Taylors’ School and Chair of the London Fees Assistance Consortium. Married to Suzanne, Michael has two sons and is a keen sportsman interested in football (a long-suffering supporter of Newcastle United), skiing and fitness.
Mrs Goodfellow joined the school in 2019 as Deputy Head responsible for Staffing, Co-Curricular, and Operations and was part of the Religion and Philosophy Department. She became Head of Brentwood Preparatory School in 2024.
Mrs Goodfellow began her teaching career after working as a policy advisor on climate change and sustainability for the Department of Communities and Local Government and quickly found her passion in education. Mrs Goodfellow holds two Masters – Globalisation and Postnational Communication from SOAS and an MA in Education from the Institute of Education.
Prior to joining Brentwood, Mrs Goodfellow held the Vice Principal responsibilities for Teaching and Learning and for Curriculum at The UCL Academy in Camden, London and beforehand was an Assistant Principal at Hendon School in North West London. Mrs Goodfellow sits on the Chartered College of Teaching’s Assessment Board as well as being a permanent member of the Advisory Panel for the RE PGCE at the Institute of Education.
Mrs Jenkin is the Senior Deputy Head responsible for pastoral care. She is the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the Senior School and is a member of the German Department. Mrs Jenkin holds an MA from Cambridge in Modern Languages and started her teaching career in 1989. Before joining Brentwood in September 2013 she gained experience as a resident boarding tutor at King Edward’s School, Witley, worked as a modern languages teacher at St Albans’ High School for Girls, the Almaty International School in Kazakhstan and Merchant Taylors’ Boys’ School and was then appointed as Head of German and Deputy Head of Sixth Form at St Helen’s School, Northwood. She moved to Sir William Perkin’s School, Chertsey, in 2007, to become Head of Sixth Form and a member of the Senior Leadership team responsible for teacher training.
Mr Barfield Moore joined the school in 2014 as Director of the IB Diploma Programme. He read Philosophy at Churchill College, Cambridge and is currently most interested in Political Philosophy, Nietzsche and existentialism. He teaches Philosophy, Theory of Knowledge, Global Politics and our Project qualifications.
Mr Justham joined the School in September 2020 as Director of Innovative Curriculum, implementing a new IT infrastructure and developing our Careers programme. Mr Justham is now Deputy Head responsible for Staffing, Co-Curricular, and Operations and is part of the Computer Science Department.
Mr Justham read Computer Science and Business Management at Essex University. He previously worked in the State sector and has held posts including Associate Assistant Headteacher and Head of House.
The Bursar is responsible for all non-academic aspects of the School, including Estates, Facilities, Grounds, Maintenance, HR, Finance and IT, and reports to the Chair of Governors. Mr Blunden recently completed service in the Royal Navy during which he attained the rank of Commodore. He held a number of commands during his naval career including command of multinational task forces in the Indian Ocean combatting piracy and maritime terrorism, the Fleet Flagship HMS Bulwark and the destroyer HMS Newcastle. He was also the last Navigating Commander of The Royal Yacht Britannia.
His most recent posting was as an Executive Director of the Defence Academy covering operational and financial management, compliance and new commercial activities as well as running the UK Armed Forces’ flagship senior leadership development programme. In addition to the considerable experience gained in the Royal Navy, Mr Blunden has a BSc in Systems and Management from City University London.
Mrs Carswell has been at Brentwood School since 2010 and is the School’s Finance Director and Deputy Bursar. She read History at the University of East Anglia and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Peat Marwick (later KPMG) in 1986. She spent several years working in industry as a Financial Controller for John Brown Engineering PLC, part of the Trafalgar House Group, before moving into the Education sector. As Financial Director she is responsible for the School’s finances.
Mr Mason joined Brentwood School in 2023 to lead our Development Office and run the School Foundation. A University of Exeter graduate, he started working life in the City with various leveraged banking roles at Lloyds. In the last 10 years, Sam has gained notable experience as Head of Philanthropy at Samaritans, sourcing public funding for Auckland University, and in commercial business consultancy.
Sam leads our ambition to grow and strengthen our external network of alumni and supporters. The Brentwood School Foundation is at the heart of Sam’s work, as he puts in place the relationships and infrastructure to grow our funds for transformative bursaries.
Sam is married to Ginny and they have two daughters, a keen golfer and sportsman, he and his family live in Brentwood.
Mr Sawyer is the Prep School Deputy Head responsible for Operations and Co-Curricular Activities. Having studied Law originally, a move into Secondary School teaching followed, which allowed him to continue his involvement with sport and physical activity through education. Mr Sawyer has worked across the breadth of the educational spectrum; Primary, Secondary and Further Education, State and Independent, as well as in Special Educational Needs Schools.
He moved to Essex with his family in 2013 to take up a post at a local Prep School before moving to Brentwood Prep in 2017 as Director of Sport and Co-Curricular Activities – his two daughters following him to Brentwood School. Mr Sawyer enjoys riding his bikes now that he no longer plays rugby but his main pulse raiser is supporting Liverpool Football Club.
Mrs Trowell studied Geography and Sports Science at Loughborough University. After gaining her degree, she returned there a year later to complete her PGCE. She started her teaching career at a State Primary School but after the birth of her son, she worked alongside her husband at Widford Lodge Prep School in Chelmsford for 18 years. Mrs Trowell joined Brentwood in 2018 and was promoted to Deputy Head in 2020, now having responsibility for Pastoral Care, including Safeguarding and PSHE. She maintains a keen interest in sport and is pleased she still has the opportunity to teach Games, especially netball.
Mrs Barfield Moore joined the School in 2017. As Director of Pedagogy and Staff Development, she is responsible for the induction of new staff and oversees all training for teaching staff at the School. Mrs Barfield Moore read Religion Politics and Society at King’s College London. She has previously worked in both State and Independent sectors and has held posts as Head of Theology and Philosophy, and Head of Teaching and Learning.
Miss Bishop has a degree in Theology from the University of Exeter and she completed her PGCE through the Maryvale Institute in Birmingham. Since joining Brentwood School, she has been an Assistant Housemistress for Mill Hill and West House, a Deputy Head of Year across Key Stage 3 and 4 and Head of Years 7 and 8.
In her role as Director of Pastoral Care and Safeguarding, Miss Bishop enjoys working with all the Heads of Year and the Safeguarding team, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the students at Brentwood School. Every day is different and that is what she likes! She learns British Sign Language and subsequently supervises the VSAs foundational course in deaf awareness.
Mr Cooper (OB) returned to Brentwood School in 2013 as a teacher of music following a degree in music from Durham University and a PGCE at the Institute of Education. Mr Cooper is responsible for the provision of Performing Arts at Brentwood School.
Outside of Brentwood School, Mr Cooper is the Musical Director of the Seven Steps Big Band, conductor of the Brentwood Philharmonic Orchestra, vice-chair of the Brentwood Arts Council and performer in a variety of national bands, orchestras and pit bands.
Mrs Carter joined Brentwood School in 2018 as Head of Geography and has since taken on the role of Director of IB. She read Geography at University College London and enjoyed it so much she continued her PGCE and MA in Education at the same university.
Prior to Brentwood School, she worked as Head of Geography in a mixture of State and Independent Schools in Kent. She now has oversight of the International Baccalaureate at Brentwood School and is passionate about guiding students towards the pathway most right for them in the Sixth Form.
Mr Gamester joined Brentwood School in January 2021. He studied Sports Science at St Mary’s University, where he also completed his PGCE. Mr Gamester was previously Director of Sport at Dame Alice Owen’s School in Hertfordshire, where he also held pastoral responsibilities, as well as spending time on the SLT.
As Director of Sport (3-18), Mr Gamester is responsible for the strategic direction of sport at both the Prep and Senior schools, as well as leading and managing all staff who are involved in the sports programme. He was also a successful athlete, representing England in Cross Country. Outside of Brentwood School, sport is still a significant part of his life, but these days this is mainly through spectating at his beloved Arsenal FC.
Mr Smith is the Director of Pupil Wellbeing in the Senior School and a member of the Physical Education Department. Mr Smith has a first-class degree in Sport Science. He began teaching in SEND in 2016, before qualifying at Campion School as a Teacher of PE and Games in 2017. Mr Smith joined Brentwood in September 2018 and became Head of Boys’ Games in 2021. He then moved to Assistant Director of Pupil Wellbeing in 2023 and is now Director of Pupil Wellbeing. Mr Smith is an international rugby player for Wales, playing 7s at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, the Rugby World Cup 2022 in Cape Town and across all continents of the World 7s Series.
Ms Bailey, a former award-winning journalist, has been at Brentwood School since 2012 and heads up the Marketing & Communications Department. Ms Bailey started her career with Norwich-based Eastern Counties Newspapers working as a general news reporter for the Beccles & Bungay Journal. Cutting her teeth on local news was followed by stints as crime reporter on the Eastern Daily Press; Chief Reporter of the Great Yarmouth Mercury, and Deputy News Editor and Sub-Editor of the Eastern Evening News and Eastern Daily Press. After relocating to Essex in 1990, Ms Bailey worked for 15 years with the Brentwood Leisure Trust before moving to a marketing-focused role with Serco Docklands, former operators of Docklands Light Railway. She oversees all aspects of the School’s marketing, brand strategy and communications to internal and external audiences, including prospective and current pupils and their families, school staff and governors, and other key community and education industry influencers.
Mrs Faulkner joined Brentwood School in 2017 as a HR Adviser and now leads on all aspects of Human Resources Management for all employees, coaches, visiting music teachers, volunteers and contractors across the School community.
Mrs Faulkner has over 20 years of experience in senior generalist HR roles, specialising in Employee Relations and Employment Law across a variety of industries throughout the UK including; aerospace and defence, engineering and manufacturing.
Mr Love is an experienced property and estate director. Originally qualified as an electrical and mechanical engineer, Mr Love has honed his skills in property management. He worked for Haden Building Management as a building manager on commercial buildings in and around Milton Keynes. He then moved into healthcare, contract managing over 15 hospitals ensuring all projects, refurbishments and high-level maintenance works were all completed to meet the statutory and compliance regulations. Mr Love then moved on to Aspen Healthcare as the Estates Director and was on the executive board for 17 years, managing multiple estates and properties, developing and implementing multi-million-pound projects and ensuring all the properties had professional building management teams. Mr Love joined Brentwood School as the Estates Bursar in September 2021.
Mr Morgan oversees the trading activities of the Sports Centre and the School Shop, as well as the arrangements for daily coach transport to and from school.
After studying at Loughborough for his MSc in Recreation Management, he led the national development of mountain biking for the British Cycling Federation, before managing a number of local authority and privately managed sporting facilities across the South East.
Since joining the School in 1999 he has been responsible for the operations and financial performance of BSE, the organisation which manages commercial trading income across the site.
Mr Morgan is also a long-standing Governor of a local Primary School and a Trustee for a Multi-Academy Trust in Basildon
Mr Singh (OB) returned to the School in 2006 as an IT Technician following a degree in Computer Science at Brunel University London and an IT role in the city. Mr Singh is responsible for the IT Infrastructure, Systems and Data at Brentwood School.
Mr Singh is also a Commissioned Officer in the RAF Air Cadets and until recently was the Officer Commanding RAF section and Second in Charge of the Contingent. He now holds a national position in the RAF Air Cadets with responsibility for leadership development for the East and South East.
