Brentwood School chess sibling supremos Nina (Year 9) and Max (Year 7) have just returned from representing England at the European Chess Union Championships in Greece.

Both played board 2 for their respective teams – Nina for the Under 18 Girls’ team and Max (making his international team debut) for the Under 12 Open team. The team competitions were 7 rounds over 7 days with the U18 Girls finishing 9th overall and the U12 Open team 5th.

Nina and Max also played in the individual rapid and blitz championships. Nina came 1st equal but 3rd on tiebreak in the U14 girls’ rapid to win a bronze medal. In a larger field, Max played above his rating to come 15th in the U12 blitz (10.5/18) and 21st in the rapid.

Both players will be in action at the FIDE-Rated standard play and rapid play tournament, hosted by Brentwood School, over the August Bank Holiday weekend. All the event details are on the ECF calendar and at British Chess. If you would also like to play, contact Brentwood School’s Chess Coach Robin Slade: [email protected]  Please note that while the rapid play is open to all, the standard play is just for those with a FIDE rating above 1500.
