Both a culmination and a beginning
Dear all,
Today marks the end of an exceptionally busy period in school, with a myriad of events for the pupils and it’s fair to say that they have loved every one of them.
One of my very favourite events to attend is the Key Stage 1 Easter Service in our School Chapel. This is a relatively long standing event in our calendar, and I am delighted to report that the quality of the singing and public speaking was as strong as ever, if not better than in previous years. The confidence of the readers and the clarity of their voices were really impressive for children so young. As is the way, the event was very well attended by our parents and those who were there will no doubt remember the children’s rendition of I’m a Spring Chicken which has become a firm favourite for all in attendance, and for generations of pupils before them.
This morning, I was back in the Chapel to say a few words to our Upper Sixth Leavers who will be heading off on study leave shortly after Easter. This was the last time that they could congregate en masse, and it was a privilege to talk to them about life’s journey and the notion that all things have to come to an end. Like our 5 year old pupils who graced the same venue last week, these 18 year olds have so much to look forward to and, whilst their time at Brentwood is coming to an end, they are supremely well placed to live successful and happy lives.
Hot footing it back to the final Prep assembly of the term, it was the first time that our very youngest pupils in Foundation have made it to a whole Prep gathering. They were excited to be there, and it dawned on me that this morning’s two events encapsulated the 15 year journey that our wonderful pupils take, between starting and ending the glorious journey that is school.
Have a great Easter break, and we look forward to seeing the pupils safely back at school on Wednesday 17th of April.
