A super summer of showjumping success has set Brentwood School rider Eloise Squibb up perfectly for next month’s prestigious Horse of the Year Show - the highlight of the equestrian calendar.

Fourteen-year-old Eloise and her pony Rudgeway Maestro could not be faulted at last month’s 2019 British Showjumping National Championships held at the National Agricultural and Exhibition Centre Stoneleigh (NAEC), Stoneleigh Park, near Coventry.

The dynamic duo took the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters national title after a rapid round. Eloise was up against a field of 34 of the UK’s best young riders and an early draw in the jump off meant the pressure was on to be quick. Eloise flew round the up to height course and finished 0.3 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor to become national champion.

The following day, Eloise kept her cool and piloted her pony round in impressive style to become well-deserved double champion by winning the final of the Pony Foxhunter Masters. Eloise and her 12-year-old grey gelding will now head to the NEC in Birmingham for the annual Horse of the Year Show.

Proud mum Mrs Sarah Squibb said: “We were over the moon with one win so you can imagine how delighted we were with Eloise’s second victory. As parents, my husband and I are very proud of how Eloise commits to her ponies and also her school sports and academic studies.”

And Eloise wasn’t the only member of the Squibb family enjoying showjumping success, younger sister Tia celebrated a third spot finish in the final of the 138 Championship with her pony Drumaclan Flight. The result was enough to see Tia, who is also competing at the Horse of the Year Show,  qualify for The Liverpool International at the end of the year.
